Gaming operators have been eagerly awaiting news from Switzerland for quite a while. Now, the Swiss government finally published the first draft of a new Swiss gaming act. It contains significant changes to the current system, most notably the licensing of online games and the permission of poker tournaments outside of casinos. However, in the current version, only the land-based casino operators already established in Switzerland would be able to legally offer such games. Falling revenues, creditors demanding cost-cutting exercises, substantial redundancies, employees on strike: this is the current reality at state-owned Holland Casino, which was once a cash cow for the Dutch government.
It is no secret that the Dutch government wants to sell the blighted and struggling Holland Casino. Although the privatisation of Holland Casino is on the horizon, it has been pushed back to make way for another piece of regulatory reform, the introduction of a
remote gaming licensing system, which receives priority treatment.
